| Live
like the Prophet, Love like the Prophet
(Peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) |
Ayesha
(ra) said, "I used to play with the dolls (when she was a little
girl) in the presence of the Prophet (saw), and my girlfriends
also used to play with me. When Allah's Apostle (saw) used to
enter, my friends used to hide themselves, but the Prophet (saw)
would call them to join and play with me." In another hadith,
the Prophet (saw) discovered a horse with two wings made from
rags in the collection of Ayesha's (ra) toys. He asked, "What
is this I see among them?" She replied, "A horse". He asked,
"What is this that it has on it?" She replied, "Two wings".
He asked, "A horse with two wings?" She replied, "Have you not
heard that Solomon had horses with two wings?" She said, Thereupon
the Apostle of Allah (saw) laughed so heartily that I could
see his molar teeth. (Molar teeth are the teeth all the way
on the side of a person's jaw).
We
must live like the Prophet (saw), but we also have to learn
how to love like the Prophet (saw). Be compassionate like him.
The Prophet (saw) was a very busy man. All the burdens of Prophethood
were upon him. Yet he always appeared loving and with a smile
on his face. The Prophet (saw) also joked with his companions
from time to time.
An
old woman came to the Prophet (saw) and said, "O Messenger of
Allah, pray to Allah (swt) that I will enter Paradise." He said
jokingly, "O mother of so and so, no old women will enter Paradise."
So the old woman went away crying. The Prophet (saw) then said,
"Tell her that she will not enter Paradise as an old woman,
for Allah (swt) says: 'We have created [their companions] of
special creation, and made them virgin-pure [and undefiled]'
- (Quran 56: 35-36)
Once,
Ayesha (ra) went out with the Prophet (saw) on a journey. The
Prophet (saw) told the people, "Go on ahead", and they went
on ahead. He then said to Ayesha (ra), "Come, let us have a
race." Ayesha, (ra), was very slim at that time. So they raced,
and Ayesha won the race. The Prophet (saw) never mentioned that
matter again, until he noticed that Ayesha (ra) had put on a
little weight. So one day, he again asked Ayesha to accompany
him on a journey, and again told the people to go on ahead.
He said to Ayesha (ra), "Come, let us have a race." And so they
raced, and this time, the Prophet (saw) won the race. He began
to laugh and said, "This is for that."
Can
we not see, how loving, how caring and how understanding the
Prophet (saw) was to the people? We should be like that. We
have to learn to live like that, for Allah (swt) takes careful
account of all things. Give up the petty arguments with friends
and family. Be nice to the children. Promote compassion and
promote love. For nothing in this world matters, except your
iman.
Before
ending, one last hadith will be quoted.
The
Prophet (saw) said, "When a believer dies, the grave says to
him, 'Welcome and greeting; you are indeed the dearest to me
of those who walk upon me. I have been given charge of you today
and you have come to me and you will see how I shall treat you.'
The grave will then expand for the believer, as far as the eye
can see and a door to Paradise will be opened for them. But
when the unbeliever is buried, the grave says, 'No welcome and
no greeting to you; you are the most hateful to me of those
who walk upon me. I have been given charge of you today and
you have come to me and you will see how I shall treat you."
Allah's Messenger (saw) indicated it by interlacing his fingers.
Then he said, "Seventy dragons will be put in charge of him
of such a nature, that if one of them were to breathe on the
Earth, it would produce no crops as long as the world lasted.
These dragons will byte and scratch the unbeliever, until he
is brought to the reckoning."
The
grave is one of the gardens of Paradise, or one of the pits
of Hell. Which of the two your grave will be, is entirely your
choice. Live like the Prophet (saw), and love like the Prophet
(saw). And insh'Allah, we will be one with the people in Paradise.
May
Allah (swt) guide us all along the straight path, and save us
from those actions, which will send us to the hellfire. Ameen.
