INTRODUCTION TO THE THREE BRANCHES OF ISLAM

(Aqida, Shari’a and Tasawwuf)

This course will aim on very important issues of beliefs such as What is Aqida?, As a Muslim what are my beliefs?, What is Sharia’s (Islamic law)?, What were societies like when they lived by the Shari’a?, What is Tassawwuf? And where will a clear understanding of Aqida, Shari’a and Tasawwuf lead? The following books will be used in this course

1. Al-Aqidatut-Tahawiyya – This book outlines the Islamic aqida as explained by Imam Abu Hanifa and his two most important students, Imam Abu Yusuf and Imam Muhammad al-Shaybani, may Allah be pleased with them all.
2. Principles of Islamic Jurisprudence – This book by Dr. Mohammad Hashim Kamali from the International Islamic University of Malaysia provide a detailed explanation of Usul al-Fiqh (Sources of Islamic Law).
3. Al-Futuhat al-Ilahiyya fi Sharh al-Mabahith al-Asliyya – This book by Shaykh Ahmad ibn Ajiba explains the basis, the benefits and the rules of Tasawwuf.
