ENTRANCE

Entrance requirements and students expectation

For the Diploma course, Tayiba institute accepts students from the age of 14 - 15 years who have completed Year 10 level of education (or its overseas equivalent). All students are expected to attend 90 per cent of the scheduled classes/tutorials.  Students are expected to remain on campus unless permission has been given to leave temporarily (e.g. to attend TAFE classes).

Enrolment in Vocational Studies

Tayiba institute’s goal is for every Muslim student to study Islam and vocational studies together (simultaneously). This unique educational strategy will provide students with Deen knowledge as well as skills and knowledge in an area that will support their future career or professional life. Simultaneous enrolment in a local TAFE course (vocational studies) is strongly recommended.  The cost of studying at TAFE is quite moderate for students with Australian citizenship or permanent residence. However, overseas students are charged at higher rate. Different courses have different fee structures. Please contact us to discuss your child’s educational choices.

Student discipline policy

  1. Students must implement Islamic Shariah in their daily lives (i.e. prayers, fasting, etc)
  2. Students should, as much as practical, be in a state of Wudu during studies.
  3. Students must follow the timetable of the Jaamia and be punctual to classes.
  4. Study after classes will be prescribed by the teacher.  Students must fulfil this obligation in the environment of the Islamic Library.
  5. Students must avoid taking part in any activity that would contradict the objective of Tayiba institute.
  6. Students who are found to be a disruptive influence within the Jaamia or are not seen to be making serious efforts in their studies may receive a formal warning from the Principal.  After such a warning the student may be suspended at which point a special meeting may be held by three special members from the Board to determine whether the student should be expelled and require to leave at his own expense.  The decision taken by this body is deemed to be final and fees will be refunded for those pre-paid, incomplete terms.

Special considerations for female students

Tayiba institute is teaching Shariah, therefore to be consistent in the practice of Shariah, segregation between male and female students will try to be upheld as much as possible. In the classroom, a segregation partition will be set up so that male and female students can not see each other (and a male teacher can not see the female students). Female students will be able to hear the teacher.
Female students may be granted further exemptions in attendance for special circumstances.

Examination and Promotion

At the end of each term, students will sit an exam for each subject studied that term.  An end-of-year will be held at the end of each year.  Examinations will consist of a combination of both verbal and written answers.

Promotion will be conditional on the student showing good performance in the term exams, student attendance (90 per cent) and passing the end-of-year exam.  Any student who does not pass the end-of-year exam will be given a supplementary end-of-year exam (second chance).

Parents receive feedback on student performance every term and are encouraged to regularly contact the institute to discuss the progress of their child with the teacher/s.

Accommodation (Interstate & oversease students)

At present, there are no on-campus boarding facilities. Therefore, students will be living in units/houses located close to the institute. Female students will live with females only.

3 Year Alim Course Fee

It is very important to understand that Tayiba institute is a non-profit organisation, not a business. The fees charged represent the cost incurred to employ a qualified ALIM, Hafiz of Quran and part-time administration staff. Many of the teachers work voluntarily. Other running expenses also need to be covered: gas, electricity, etc. Any excess funds will be invested in the further development of the institute.
